MAC Makes Music – Award winning music programme

My most substantial project at MAC, I produced an in-depth short-documentary that looked at the work that goes on in MAC Makes Music. This programme has won awards for its music outreach and education for children and young people, especially those with disabilities, additional needs, or barriers that stop them engaging with other music education provision.

I worked closely with the Producer of this programme to develop the scope and direction of the film, visiting numerous music sessions across the region that represented different aspects of their multifaceted programmes. Over the course of a year and a half I interviewed people integral to its successes and participants whose lives have been changed as a result. This involved sensitive filming around vulnerable people and groups, one setting which involved a teenager in the youth justice system who had to be anonymised. From the full-length film, I produced shorter-edits of particular programmes for use on social media.
